Walk most plant floors in Jackson and you will find machines that are 15, 20, sometimes 30 years old and still running fine. They hold tolerance. They make good parts. Nobody is replacing them, and nobody should.

The problem is that they are silent. No run time data. No downtime log. No warning before something goes wrong. You find out a machine is struggling when it stops.

The usual answer is expensive: buy new equipment, or integrate with the PLC and hope the controls are recent enough to cooperate. Both are real projects with real budgets, and both stall.
